Murals that Bridge: Huron st.

Mary and Danijel were approached by local artists and generous funders of public art in the Ann Arbor area, Lucie and Larry Nisson. The 4 of them dreamed up a large, 2 fold project to beautify 2 rundown and centrally located train bridges into uplifting and welcoming public art.

The process for getting this project approved was multifaceted and took over 2 years from start to finish. The approvals had to come from Watco who owned the railroad, the City of Ann Arbor, plus MDOT who owns the right of way. Michigan industrial painting company, Northstar painting, was hired to clean, restore and prime the trusses and facia beam to make ready for the art. Lanes were closed over the course of 2 weeks in order to paint the over head fascia beam. Another month was allotted for the concrete wing walls. The design was inspired by the many gardens we see across Ann Arbor, the paintings will offer year round color and beautify in addition to “WELCOME” messaging for all who enter and visit downtown Ann Arbor coming from the west side.
